Crazy thought on propane injection
« on: December 30, 2008, 02:02:06 am »
Has anyone made a propane injection set up where you flick on the propane while idling, it triggers a solenoid to release propane into the intake and at the same time a servo turns down the idle screw (keeping the fuel screw in at max) so that you done over rev at idle with the propane added.

This application would be good for a max fueling set up consisting of
added diesel via fuel screw and big pump head/injectors and plunger
propane injection
water/methanol injection
and NOS added to completely burn all the added fuel.

Am i insane?
Is there any way this would work?
It all seems straight forward to me in a retarded and ignorant way.
I realize that the engine would likely run away and you wouldnt be able to idle or shift gears without expecting it to likely red line and blow up.

Propane (propain) is bad news in VW idi engines.  It takes very little to detonate.  And when you hear the detonation, you have atleast one cracked swirl chamber already.

i've heard of guys using a very small amount with very little gain...

DI engines benefit more from it... maybe i'll try it on my mTDI :)

DVST8R had a thread on here about nitrous a while back.  As I recall, it worked well.  Nitrous is essentially more oxygen.  While propain is just more fuel, and tends to bust stuff.  Seems to me there was something in the FAQ...

I read an article about using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) instead of Propane. Are the properties of this any better than Propane? If I recall, there was a fuel milage and power increase. I think it was used to increase the efficiency of the burn.  (Once again the was used on a new Direct Injection GMC pickup.)
