Mocal sandwich plate ???'s
« on: December 18, 2008, 08:03:58 pm »
I just got the mocal sandwich plate to hook up my oil cooler. I went to install it on my engine But I cant get my filter to screw all the way on to it. Kind of like the threads bottom out inside the filter. Do I need a different filter or possibly need to change the threaded pipe. Its an aaz motor and I wont be using the stock heat exchanger.

There are shorter thread pieces available. You may need one because the Mocal sandwich plate is thinner than the original heat exchanger.
Supposedly a Mk1 GTI thread piece fits - The Mk1 GTI apparently had a sandwich adapter as stock.

...Or you could try if a regular VW thread piece does the job - one from any VW engine without the OE heat exchanger unit.

Get a threading die in the appropriate size (3/4-16 on my 1.6), cut an additional 3 or 4 threads in the stub and cut the necessary amount off the end.

I was hoping just to buy One I have no shop to work in. So what I do work on its outside and the temps have been hovering around zero for a week. Even with my salamander heater it still gets very cold. Winter caught me with my pants on on this project

Maill it to me and I'll do it...

It's not fun trying to find various lengths of hens teeth in the junkyard. Maybe contact Mocal and see if they can come up with what you need?

Like I said, just pay a visit to your local VW parts dealer and you're good to go.
