1991 Jetta 4dr Diesel, 1.6 NA, 5 spd, 171,000 miles. Good condition. No rust! Dark metallic gray. 40-45 MPG. 2nd owner, log book history of every repair, oil change and every time the tank was filled from the time it was new. All maintenance up to date. Great tires, brakes, suspension, etc. Will pass inspection. Emissions exempt. Needs nothing! Driven every day. Car has made trips from Rochester NY to Toronto, Boston and New Hampshire and hasn't missed a beat. Starts great in the winter. No electrical gremlins in Mk II VW diesels- they are totally mechanical with no computers or electrical things to foul things up.
Honestly, it's my wife's idea to sell it. Apparently this vehicle was one of the issues putting a strain on our relationship- something about she is too embarrassed of driving a car from the last century, and something about that it doesn't have electric windows and heated seats, and how she works hard and deserves better. Hate to see it go. Great car to convert to run on vegetable oil or give to that special someone.
New in the last 20,000 miles or so:
New Front brakes-rotors, pads and master cylinder
New front struts
New front bearings
New lower ball joints
New tie rods
New head- new valves, valve stems, cam bearings, cam and crank shaft seals, etc
New starter
New glow plugs last month
New timing belt
New fuel filter
New tail light bulbs
New tires
The only things wrong with the car are:
Missing grill piece on driver side corner
Slight dent in hood, where the paint has cracked (I was going to find a used hood the same color)
Cracks in the dash
AC needs to be recharged
Cruise control just stopped working (I am going to look at the switch)
