WTB : Pre TDI 1.6TD
« on: December 02, 2008, 04:24:04 pm »
I am looking for something close to Arkansas. If I can find one cheap enough that shipping would be reasonable then I am open to it as well. I would like something as complete as possible. Any leads or info are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

There was a guy here in TN with a couple of 1.6TD motors on VWVortex. His user name was deaneid. I think a few folks got screwed over by him (paid for item plus shipping, never got the item). I'd imagine that you couldn't do too bad if you looked at it directly, bought it then and drove it home. I want to think he was south of Nashville off I-24. Tullahoma maybe???

Thank you for the heads up! It appears that he removed the items form his
listings. I will keep an eye out there though. I am really open to just about any of the diesels but the best case scenario is the older 1.6 TD. I am trying to stay away form the complexity of electronics in the TDI.

Well, you're about limited to the 1.6TD living in AR. The 1.9TD don't usually make it that far south.

Texas might be a place to look. Those farmers usually have old cars rotting away in corners of their fields. You could get lucky.

Cars to look for with the 1.6TD would be the Quantum (all Quantum diesels had the 1.6TD), or Jettas (1983-1986, and 1991-1992).

I would try searching Craigslist using crazedlist.org, The Samba, and over at VWVortex especially the Canadian ads.  There is one guy over in Ontario right now selling a MK2 Jetta TD and he's just lowered the price to $550.  For that price it would be pretty easy to import into the US.
Greg

'06 Golf TDI traded in for a '12 Jeep Rubicon (the Phatbox is available)
'91 Jetta TD, a work in progress (I'll do a build thread when I start in earnest)
'65 Notchback, a project not yet started

I'm sure they're still for sale (assuming he still has them). Everything's for sale. I'd send him an IM/PM and see what you find out.

Otherwise, Craig's Helper or crazedlist is your friend.  There are alot of TD motors for sale here in the US on this forum, but nearly all are up north, having bled down from Canada.

Holy crap crazedlist is AWESOME! I have never heard of that before. I check my local craigslist all the time but this is just sweet.
