There are several places under $2 per gallon now.  I am lucky, since the cheaper stations are very close to my house.  Regular gas is down to $1.29.  Given my MINI was getting around 30 mpg, that means I am not doing better driving the Jetta, in pure economic terms.  Paying almost 50% more, but only going about 25-30% further per gallon.

I am approaching the 1/2 tank mark on the tank after the "Sport" mode driving.  After some initial drives, I decided to switch to "Sport" after the engine was warmed up.  That tank ended up as 33.15 mpg.  This one appears to be headed for 37 mpg, which isn't any better than the tank before the "Sport" mode.

well considering the size difference, i'd say that 37 mpg is pretty good.  probably best to be gentle on the motor while its cold, and give it a good run when its warm (this helps keep the motor clean)

a passat wagon gasser probably gets 25mpg if its lucky...

you guys in the states have such cheap gas prices... so lucky!!! but i'll take our health care over it anyday!!!

I paid $2.759 for a gallon of diesel.  Many independent stations are 25 cents less.

I was always told stick with one brand as much as possible. Sometimes the pennies saved per gallon cost you dollars more in repairs down the road.

My 2009 Jetta sedan has been averaging 39 mpg city/highway. Hasn't broken 1000 miles yet, so I'm taking it easy.

Question for the experts here. I didn't see in my manual any amount of time to let the turbo cool before shutting off the engine. I try to give it 2-3 minutes every time.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for the hijack. Welcome to the site, and best of luck with the new car.

Agreed!  Maybe with all the talk we'll get something a little better in the coming years.  Americans get so scared when you say the word "socialized", and even terrified when you mention taking away "choice".  Neither system is perfect, but one that serves most of the people most of the time is probably best.  BTW, most health care plans limit choice already in one way or another.
