hi there, i have seeked but not found if somebody putted mk3 tank in mk1! i have mk1 -83 1,6d, na. always when temp goes down to -10C it comes only air from filter. filter is chanced 10 times and tank cleaned 3 times, filter-cup in tank removed, reverce in and out lines helps only a little. dieselfuel tested in freeze is ok but ofcourse vacum "helps" the fuel to gel. so somebody put in the plastic tank from mk3 to mk1? its bigger and gives more kms, thats also a reason,,, does the rear axle fitt also? (why i ask,,, its snowing and cold out the my stuff is, brr, brr).
thanks,,
I would very much doubt it would fit. Those tanks were molded by basically getting them to wrap around the underbody shape. A mk 3 is much wider than a mk1 plus the downpipe fit inside the rear wheel well could be quite problematic.
hi! ok, hope you are wrong,, but if someone has possibility to check, it shoud be thanksfull,,, otherwise i must wait to the summer,,,
Umm, why do you think mk3 tank could fit? Those are 2 totally different cars

thanks mjf,,,
you killed all hope with picks. i wanted a bigger tank without problem with rust and i have a golf3tdi donor car for my golf1, thatswhy,,
kiitos!
You can get the lines/tank cleaned out.
Put a clear fuel filter in line before an electric fuel pump.
I usually just suck fuel out of the tank, through the filter and back into the tank. That cleans the particles out.
I've had to pump fuel out of the tank, through the filter and backwards through the fuel line by feeding the filtered fuel into the metal line entering the engine bay. The whole fuel line was full of crap.
Of course the tank screen was removed for this.
It took about 7 hours of cleaning and flushing but it got all the crud out.
Put a clear plastic filter in before the stock filter when we were done and it caught a little more.
That fuel pump and filter setup gets used alot.
hi fatbobile,,
good metod to pump the fuel tru filter in hours. i used hoover, big plastic canister and hard plastic line/pipe. problem is not the crap, its freezing i -10c, (anders celsius). fuellines shoud be moved to go inside the car instead under where cold air cool them. and add an electric feedpump to switch on just when you need. in low temps and after work with ip or running dry. believe can also buy tdi-filter with that plastic thermoventil. someone here done it?
