this may be a stupid question but can you swap a diesel engine into a shell that had a gas engine in it (in a 91 jetta) of is it just too much *** to change that it isnt worth it. All i can think of is the tank/sending unit, fuel lines, wiring etc but how hard is it to change the wiring and are the motor mounts the same? thanks for the info
myles
It is not that hard, there are a lot less electronics to hook up to the Diesel than a gasser, you just end up with alot of unused wiring.
The mounts and everything will all bolt up. The fuel tank should work, but you might have to run the gas transfer pump and then remove the external pump. The filler neck should have a reducer on the gas car which would need to be removed for the diesel pump nozzle to fit in there.

I used a coarse sandpaper grinding drum on a dremmel to make mine big enough for a Diesel nozzle, some have a piece rivited in so you can just remove the whole inner neck piece.
