Vancouver is chock full of Volkswagens... My front street alone there's at least 3 Mk IIIs, 2 Mk IVs and a Mk V all in one block. But it seems like there's none in any of the wrecking yards around here! Given there's so many on the roads they have to be winding up somwhere... I see lots of GVRD (uhm, I mean "Metro Vancouver' now, right?) people on the forum, some of you must have found the "secret stash".... So where are they?!
a lot of the older vw's are considered "slow movers" , meaning that they may sit there for awhile taking up space before someone is interested in one of their parts .
and since steel is worth a fair amount of money lately , alot of them get crushed to make room for newer vehicles that will make more money .
I found a half dozen Mk II's out at the Pick-A-Part in Chilliwack... All gassers of course. One or two Pasatts with VR6's in them (I'm sure someone over on the Vortex would be in to those...) I'm really hoping to find a yard with some Mk III's though!
I don't know what BC is like, but my local wrecking yard just crushed half the VWs they had. They only have one diesel of any year right now. I think part of the problem is diesel fanatics too. A friend had about 60 diesels on his property a year or so ago. He got laid off and about 2/3 of them got sold for scrap to supplement the shortfall in income.
I'm figuring there's got to be some place that's buying up all the German stuff at auction - it HAS to be around somewhere!
Ralphs on Mitchell. Alpis. Autobahn in Langley. I don't know the places farther out in the valley.
Diesels get pulled within hours of hitting the yards, they are worth way more than the rest of the car.
