Ac Compressor questions..MKII & MKIII

I want to install 1.9AAZ in an MKII.

The ac system in the MKII is designed for r-12 refrigrent where the compressor in an MKIII is designed for R-134a.

I want to keep the 1.9 belt configuration, so I dont think I can use a R134a compressor (MKIII) with R12 system (MKII)? So I want to know if I can use the 5pk pulley from a 1.9 compressor with a R12 MKII compressor? And whether an the MKII compressor will fit the 1.9 fittings?

Please help if you can!!

Use the compressor on the engine.

It will be fine with either 134 or 12 just charge it up and be cold

i'm not sure if you can swap the pulley over to the mk2 compressor...

but i was going to do the same thing but using the 1.9 compressor with the serp pulley.  but i believe you also need to get the 1.9 hose ends to connect to the compressor, then somehow 'splice' them together.. with brazing or such.  and then clean them out as best as you can as you don't want to contaminate the system!

don't worry about using the old mk2 comp with r134a.  it's just wise to drain the a/c oil out somehow and put in r134a oil.  some guys don't do this, but the oil gets super thick and doesn't do its job good... a/c system gets real hot, and the smaller molecule leaks out wherever possible.

so either way both compressors should work good. i'm not even sure of the mk2 comp will bolt up to the acc bracket.

don't forget to buy a new receiver drier too!  :wink:

Zukgod1.. Thanks for the reply. So you are saying i should use 1.9 ac compressor and use 134? You think MkII system which is for R12 will take it?

R134 in an R12 systems doesn't work very well can can be really hard on components.

You light want to use an alternative like DuraCool, RedTek, etc. They are cheaper and put less load on the engine too.

the system can be converted to run r134a, but the problem is that you need to change out all your seals, and purge the old oil out.  you can run it without doing all of the work, but it won't last.  duracool/redtek WILL last, as it has a larger molecule, unless your system has a big enough leak.  

the worst spots for leaks are actually the valves.  so when the system is hooked up on the test machine, they turn up fine, and then leak everything out slowly...

I tried fixing the MK3 comp. pulley to MK2 comp. to no success. And the mk2 comp doesnt bolt onto the mk3 bracket. They have differend fittings.

I have decided to use mk3 Comp. But now i need to know how to hook up the mk2 hoses onto mk3 comp?

Good Day , Like Jtanguay said cut the steel parts of the lines and weld / braze them togethger for the best fix, I did buy a mk 1 rabbit ocne that had barb fittings gear clamped inthe line and work for may yaers like that, but that was r-12 , may work with red tech or other big molicule freon. 134 would leak i am sure.
