Just got done with TT downpipe install
« on: October 26, 2008, 09:23:03 pm »
TT does not make it easy.  I had to clearance about 1/8" between the turbo flange and the wastegate cover.  Trim one of the studs for the wastegate cover so it would not hit the support bar that TT puts on the downpipe now.  Then trim the same support bar and the flange for the nuts that hold the wastegate cover on.

All and all, not tough at all, and I will ALWAYS take a thicker, meatier flange than the opposite, but I figured it would not need near the trimming that it did to install.

The mini shift kit was cool.  The new bushings have made the tranny feel like new.

No pics for now, but combined with the TT 2 1/4" (dynomax) exhaust, she sounds pretty good.

What rig did the exhaust go into?  I am wondering what TT exhaust you got.  I see all of them on the web site say they are cat back.  Well with the diesel there is no cat.  If you have a part number that would be great.

Sure, the exhaust was p/n 253.321 (2.25" exhaust w/ dynomax muffler).  The downpipe is pretty long and goes all the way to the TT exhaust.  I did have to use a pipe expander to get the exhaust into the downpipe.  But that was it.

Oh, and be warned, I know 2 1/4" is big, but its still a major pain in the --- to get it all lined up without hitting the rear beam or the body.  But it works.

can you possibly post some pictures when you can? I just got a downpipe from them a few days ago to install in my 86.
