Car in question is an '86 turbo diesel Jetta

Ok, so ongoing is the saga of this god damn car. Started off a few weeks ago with the car just needing a bit of work here and there. So during this time the injection pump started leaking so out it went to get rebuilt and resealed. So I get the pump back in the car, time it all up (1.00mm) and I now have a hard missfire on cyl #4, so I figure that some dirt got into the injector while I had the lines off, so I order up a set of rebuilt injectors. (car has 200k on it so I figured it would be a good idea to just go ahead and do em)

So now the car has rebuilt pump and injectors. Now when I start it, it starts quickly but is rough for a few seconds and then clears out. BUT, at idle, the car will miss every few seconds. It will be a great smooth idle, but then every few seconds will stunble a bit. This is accompianed by a darker grey smoke. The car seems to have good power, and runs fine when driving it.

I had been poking around here and saw a few posts on bad rubber lines on the car causeing the fuel to become airated and cause the lean running/miss. So I hooked the car directly to a can of fresh diesel right before the filter. That did not help.

I'm running out of ideas here so any help would be welcome. I need to get this thing done!

did it stumble before?sometimes even new stuff is not so great(nozzles)especially if its chinese.

Injectors were Bosch remans. Car ran perfectly before the pump and injectors.

Well, I would say you either have some crap in a injector that wont go through it and it's causing the injector to stick once in a while or you have a air leak some where.

just eliminate things you have touched one at a time.

The fuel line is cheep to replace. You may have already done that but I'm one of those guys that doesn't read all the posts above

When I installed the injectors they were already capped from where I got them. I only removed the cap when I installed them, so I wouldn't think that there is any dirt in them, but anything is possible.

I did not renew the supply line on the car as when I ran it directly off of the can of fuel it still had the same smoke and stumble.

I'm gonna head up to my moms house to raid some parts off of the diesel in the back. I'm just going to try and swap the injectors and the one feed line from filter to pump. I'm really thinking that it's just a clogged injector or there was an issue in the rebuild process.

I'll let ya know....

you probably just need to give those new injectors an italian tune-up. let the rpm's go all out a few times (while motor is warmed up) and that should free them up if thats the problem.

any bubbles in the lines? did you put new return lines on? if not you might need to cut the ends off so you get fresh hose on as they never seal the same after they've been put on.

I tried that a few times to no avail

I also put new return lines on (the braided ones inbetween injectors)

Also checked for air in the supply line and did not see any bubbles.

I ran up the mountain last night and grabbed a set of injectors and a pump supply line, so we'll see how that goes Thursday night. (fingers crossed)
