AAZ oil pump ?
« on: November 14, 2008, 08:39:19 am »
I'm going to change the oil pan on my engine and figured I'd change the pump while I'm in there.
Does anyone make a high-volume pump for these engines?
Do you know if the AAZ pump is the same as any gas engine?

Very strange. The site mentions a different oil pump part number for a Passat AAZ versus a Jetta AAZ.

Passat - 053115167

Jetta - 051115105A

While mine is from a Passat, the engines look identical. Any comments?

gasser pump won't have the hole drilled through the shaft to lube the vac pump...

The the 051 number is a for a 16v pump. YOure looking for somthing that starts with 068

Considering the blocks are nearly identical, I think the 36mm we use on any 1.6 should fit, but I have no way to verify that.

Why bother changing it? Is it worn? check it first. I realize there are some motors on here that have real high milage, but in working at VW dealers for 21 years i don't think i ever changed an oil pump. If  your going to change the pan check the pump for wear first.

I'm actually looking for a high-flow pump for my AAZ. In the hotrod world, when you mod an engine, the first thing you do is install a better pump for more oil. For some reason, the idea seems to be foreign to VW engine builders. I wonder why?

I do know that in the VW air cooled hi-po world big oil pumps only go on race cars. A very good or best quality pump does the job without chancing blowing anything with 300 psi cold pressures. Of course this doesn't apply to all  engines and if you want to run a big remote oil cooler etc, it may be wise to do so. Just beef up the rest of the oil system to match. This is of course IMO .

More pressure isn't better for your turbo. That's why they use oil restrictor on them. If not, the oil could blow by the seals and leak into the intake. Stick with the OEM 36mm. Upgrade to a bigger pump only if your oil pressure drops below specs.

thats good advice...that's what I would do too. 8)
