To make the simple point, the 1.9td is easy to make a lot of power with, but the 1.6td could be faster over all, and will not hit you in the wallet as much for fuel.

:D

 :?: Deepmud could you clarify?
Are you suggesting that the 1.6TD can be made t oproduce more power than the 1.9TD? :?:
Thanks

Well, that is only an internet regurgatation - I may not have a clear understanding. Close to the beginning of this thread, Dr. Diesel makes mention of the 1.9td having bad port design, and trouble with higher rpm's - rpms are a great way to make power. This and in some other posts makes me think this is so. However, sometimes the performance of the 1.6td is enhanced by parts from the 1.9td.

From my experience messing with my dad's 1.6td Samurai, it takes a bit more know-how to turn up the 1.6td vs the 1.9td in my rig.

, the 1.9td seems to average 27mpg. The 1.6td gets up around 35mpg. The 1.6NA gets up to 45mpg

To make the simple point, the 1.9td is easy to make a lot of power with, but the 1.6td could be faster over all, and will not hit you in the wallet as much for fuel.

Today I fill up my 93 passat 1.9 td and I've got 39.3689 mpg
or 5.975 l/100km

hmmmm but I think the the samurai weighs a bit more than a passat  :)

oh yea...  1.6TD could produce more HP than a 1.9TD, but it definitely can NOT produce more torque     mainly due to the fact that the 1.6 can rev higher  :D
