2.0 tdi vs scooby doo WRX
« on: October 05, 2008, 09:17:03 pm »
Got cut off on a 2 into 1 lane merge right before the entrance ramp to the highway.  Other car was a subaru wrx all decked out,  huge hood scoop, big exhaust etc.  Didnt exactly like being cut off like that so I was followng a bit closer than I should have.  Entrance ramp was a 90 degree turn up a hill onto the highway.  I figured I would ride his ass up to the fast lane just to show him the diesel had some power.  We both went around the turn at about 25 mph.  Foot straight to the floor through 2nd and 3rd, redline shifts.  Damn wrx just kept pulling away.  By the time I hit 4th and started to let up, he had pulled about 10 car lengths away from me and was still going.   His car hauled ass.  Man I hope he wasnt running stock, cause I got smoked.

considering you can buy the wrx with 300 hp, i'm not surprised.  even though your car has loads of torque, the hp is still just 140.

if its any consolation, he needs to buy premium fuel and live with the 15-20 mpg if he wishes to drive like that all the time

i bet if you had your car chipped, it would have kept up

Yeah, at first  I thought I was going to keep up no problem.  I was reving high when I went into 2nd so the boost was all ready on.  For the first few seconds I was on him and then he just started pulling away.  He was really winding the gears out.

gotta love gassers.... max hp & torque @ 7-8k rpm for turbo models... and once you get into those ranges, you get what.. 10-15 mpg?   might as well drive a hummer...

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

yea i gotta watch those revs myself... this one time i was pissed because someone was in a stalled camaro at this light... i was running late so i went around and just let go in 1st relieving my stress... i was like wtf when i hit the wall   then "oh yea... 2nd gear!"   eat my smoke!!!!!!!!!  i thought for sure i burnt like a quart of oil but to my surprise, the oil was right where i left it   8) rev counter wasn't working because W terminal fell off from corrosion so i couldn't tell what my rpm's were at, but im sure the gauge was buried from the noise the engine was producing

Subaru makes impressive rally cars. I wouldn't feel shame to be smoked by a  $40,000 subi. My parents have an 08 outback 2.5xt. 240hp/240ft.lbs...
If my jetta ever comes anywhere CLOSE to making that with 1.6L of displacement....
well, we'll see.

Yeah... those WRX's and such are pretty darn fast.  A coworker has a Saabaru (WRX resold by Saab) with an auto transmission, and it's quite a bit faster than a TDI jetta... which I consider to a pretty fast car.

But, he averages 23mpg, and that with not flogging it very much.  Below 20 if you give it gas alot.   The TDI would drop to around 40 if we went too fast...

don't forget you need to buy the more expensive fuel to run a WRX because of the turbo...

i love dubs and all, but there aren't even that many gassers that'll keep up with that suebee monster.  I friend has one and I've taken a lot of rides in it.  320 hp in a station wagon.  its frikkin ridiculous ;D
