chambered exhaust question
« on: September 28, 2008, 11:05:08 pm »
My father's camaro has a full chambered exhaust system and sounds awesome.  I'd like to put a new exhaust on my rabbit and was thinking of putting a chambered straight pipe on it.  Do you think it would be too loud with our high compression?  They can be compared with glass packs without the "rasp" and can be obtained in different sizes.  Here's a link for the curious.  Check out the wav files if you're not familiar with the sound.  :D

turbo or non turbo?

my caddy witch has a 1.9TD i only have 2.25 down pipe, resonator that i can see through , and a harley exhaust turn down that ends center behind cab and center of truck!
i coat everything else in black soot! from fuel tank back to bumper but it sure sounds healthy and not loud!

non turbo you need more muffler !

non turbo.  I was thinking of getting the longest one to help quiet things down.  Very little back pressure so it would almost be a straight pipe.

you can use it but would need a muffler in tandem with it!

The exhaust on my 85 Jetta NA recently fell apart just prior to the muffler. I did not think it was that loud other than just off idle (where it was a deafening roar).

i had a 2.5" dynomax super turbo muffler on my TD rabbit. (i believe that's what you'd call a chambered muffler)
It sounded good, and wasn't too loud. The turbo does a good job of cutting out the harsh rasp.
I repair, maintain and modify VW's and BMW's.
Good work done at affordable rates. Welding and fabricating, too.
Performance Diesel Injection's Super Pump: gotta have one!

bigger the pipe is the deeper the sound will be...also less "rasp" with bigger pipe....
