Help needed, M-TDI, No RPMs and no power
« on: September 17, 2008, 10:00:39 pm »
Can anyone help me out here. I have been searching this forum for a while now and it doesn't seem that there have been many problems for me to compare mine to. OH wow I must be special!!!

NO here is the deal. I am trying to figure why I don't have any power or rpms with my m-tdi pump. I am using a 1.6td pump with cam plate and everything behind it from tdi pump. 10mm  I have the 1.6l delivery valves on it. When I put it on the engine I initially timed it to 1.05 and it did not sart, so I changed it to .95 and then it started beautifully. However it revs very slowly and it tops out at about 2000 rpm. I have the fuel screw in as far as I can with it still idling decently. I am lost can anyone help, PLEASE! :(

Thank-you!!!!!!!!!

The 1.6TD pump alone with TDI parts does not = a good mTDI pump. There are internal modifications needed.

I've explained it elsewhere, as have others. So, search as well...but here is a good place to start in the FAQ
http://vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=6427

To be short. The throttle/gov travel of your IDI TD pump is way too little for a DI (or mTDI) motor. Your advance mechnism will also need to be modified among a few other things. It is detailed i the FAQ I posted and other threads on the forum.

Thank-you for steering me in that direction. I guess my searches aren't refined enough yet :(

what about the throttle linkage? You may need to adavnce the throttle(change your position on the shaft splines)sounds similar to what my 10mm was doing.

you can clock the throttle shaft. In the end though, the IDI pump in stock form, without modification will just never PROPERLY fuel a TDI motor. Sorry...thats the reality. It will need some internal modification. The BEST you can hope for with an unmodified, IDI pump with the TDI camplate and 10mm head...maybe somewhere close to the stock mark. There it would run enough to smooth things out some...but you'll still have the residual/fuel screw just about all the way in.
