A few months ago A friend and I parted out a mk 3 golf. Some odd compatibilities that further the VW = automotive lego theory.

1- MK3 trunk carpet fits almost perfectly in a MK 1. Perfect enough that I'm using it currently (with a stopsign as a spare tire well cover, which is also a great fit).

2- The body-moulded side mirrors on a MK 3 follow the same contour as the front corner glass in MK 1 doors. Now if only I could figure out a good way of mounting them...

I've also heard of people mounting early BMW 3 series dashboards in MK 1's.. anyone heard about that?

Maarten:
I've got Scirocco 16v front brake calipers on the front and I modded my rear axle to fit the scirocco rearaxlepieces (dunno the exact english for that).. And i found out that Aluminum 38mm Golf/rabbit Mk4 or Audi A3 rearbrake calipers fit onto the mounts (also golf/rabbit mk2). One small mod is needed, the thread on the car is 8mm, the thread in the caliper is 10mm, so you need to fix a small brake line adapter from 8 to 10mm thread for that but most of the carpartstores overhere can create them on the spot with a special machine.

The advantage of the aluminium calipers is that the emergencybrakes don't rust to death.. and they look cool  8)

Corrado seats fit nicely in a Mk1 too... just need to move the lengtadjustment to the other side of the rail :) I've got half leather ones.. the seat is about 5 cm lower that the orignals.

Next things is a renault intercooler (Valeo manuf.) which fits exactly in front of my radiator: Coolingarea: 68x18,5x4 Totalsize: 85x19,5x5

Really?
Any pics of the caliper swap?
And what part of Holland?

Maarten:
If you already have calipers on the rear axle you don't need to re-drill the boltpattern for the axle pieces (whats that in english?) of the calipermounts..

This is on a MK2:

You can see the adapter, it's the small copper brake like with on one side  8mm on the original brakeline and the 10mm goes into the caliper. I just replaced the complete copperlines on my axle because the flexible part is in the middle on a caddy.

I don't need that anymore...

The best calipers to use are 2000-2004 Golf MK4/A3/Seat Leon, those are Lucas C38HR-A with improved emergencybrake mechanism.
VW partno:

Left: 1J0 612 423 D
Right: 1J0 612 424 D

The bolt distance between the 2 bolts of the caliper should be 11.5cm. I used the calipermounts of the scirocco 16v.. because the aluminium mounts of the mk4 don't fit between the mount and the disc. pads and disca are scirocco too.

srivett:
Copper?  Only steel is legal here.  The steel line fitting has to be a double flare or a bubble flar as well.  Banjos and screw in flexible lines are also okay.
