the money you'd save on fuel would pay for the pump after maybe 2-3 years? depending on how many miles you drive.  even a 5 mpg gain from the pump would make it actually save you money.

buying a Giles pump is like an investment, and good for the environment (since you're using less fuel, and since there is little to no smoke at all)

If you are after power, buy a cheap core td pump to send.  Keep or sell your almost new pump to offset the cost.

I currently have about 25,000 miles on my giles pump and I love it, I need to advance teh timing a little because the TDI I only have it set at 1.00 mm for those 25,000 miles but I have been averaging about 44 mpg, I have towed a lot of things that I shouldnt have like fully loaded enclosed 5x8 uhaul trailer and caddy bed full of all my possetions from Tucson AZ to Carson City MI and only had to downshift from 5th to 4th 3 or 4 times in the hills of new mexico, drove the whole way with 15 psi of boost and averaged 25 mpg, I have hauled 1300 lbs of steel back to the scrap yard just two weeks ago without a problem, with a 1.6 long block and transmission in the bed along with my cherry picker my brothers 01 sierra with a 5.3 cannot get around me from a dead stop until 80 mph (my 5th gear doesnt work right now otherwise he cant touch me)

the only thing that I dont like about this power is I bent the shift fork for 1st gear and now it wont go into 1st and something is messed up and wont stay in 5th gear, even with just 4th I still get 44 mpg with the Giles pump, I have it limited to about 14 psi of boost right now which I feel bad about since Giles said this pump is good to 40 psi.

thats kind of what I though as well, I am defineately not impressed with the strength of the 02J transmissions after these two gear problems. the funds are tight so 4th gear is just fine with me until I can swap out to the five speed 020 while I tear apart my transmission, I know that the 020 is very marginal in its stock form with my TDI so I have been holding off because of still getting 44 mpg

the 5th gear is in great shape it just wont stay in 5th, i replaced the synchro and nothing changed.
