Help me find a good pyro...

I need to get myself a pyro setup.  I know this has been covered lots before, I've searched, just want a final opinion.

Was looking at the Glowshift gauges...they sell a few different colour gauges with thermocouples for $100.  That's what I'm leaning towards.  Are they good to deal with?  Also what's the deal with the lights on these things...do they change colour as the gauge goes up?

Also heard the names VDO, stewart warner, autometer, and aircraft spruce...what do guys recommend?

Glowshift work ok, seem to read fairly quickly. You set the color to what you want, or it can change each time you start the vehicle I think. If you have a lot of ambient light inside your car, the tinted ones are impossible to see in daylight. Aircraft Spruce has the best thermocouple so people say.

I have a VDO gauge.  I am pretty happy with the gauge, but the probe is slower than I would like.

I am going to try an AircraftSpruce probe when I get the chance.

I'm running the Auto meter II.

I love the way it lights at night, through the dial lighting is so much better than around the dial lighting.

Reacts plenty fast as well.

Nos-hit, try the spruce thermocouple.  Its faster than stink.  It will also show how high your really going.

I had the VDO thremocouple in for a long time.  I'd only see 1300° F once and a while.

When I put the Spruce thermocouple in, its darn near instant reaction time showed I was going to 1450° almost every time I mashed the accelerator to the floor.

It also showed that as soon as you take your foot off the go pedal, the EGT falls like a rock.

IMHO they are a very valuable tool.

It comes in with a 1/8 NPT or 1/4 NPT adaptor, so figure out what you have and get the right one as they won't sell just the adaptor.

I really wanted to try one but my dang gauge have the lead built into the harness.. There is a rectangular plug on the back of the gauge that it's part of.  
If the wires were th same I could just hook it up where ever but I'm a bit nervous about cutting into it.

Ok thanks alot guys.  I'll definitely use the aircraft spruce thermocouple and probably a VDO gauge.
