my 1.6 n/a turbo wont start... itll turn over, its getting fuel, but it wont start... it does start by popping the clutch tho.. anyone have any ideas?? i dont think its the ignition switch or the starter...

did you check for air in the fuel line?

Glowplugs, power to glowplugs, low compression, air in fuel line...

glow plugs are working, fuel line is air free...

well it runs fine once it starts... could timing still be the issue??

depends on how it runs. Low compression would by my main guess if it doesn't smoke much, has no air in the lines and the glowplugs get hot.

2X... or a weak starter / electrical issues that are preventing the engine from turning over fast enough to generate enough heat.

One other thought: you've confirmed all 4 glowplugs are getting nice and cherry red ??

just checked the glow plugs, and the light in the dash comes on, but when i checked the actual plugs with a test light, i was getting to voltage on any of them or on the buss bar...

Huh?

Do you mean you were NOT getting voltage at the bus bar?

There is a fuse (I think) on the fire wall, follow the wire from the bus bar to the fire wall, there is a little black box with a fuse in it. It's not on all cars from what I gather but maybe on yours.

Yeah, thats why I asked... the light on the dash has almost nothing to do with the glowplugs actually engaging.

You'll want to work your way back... fuse on the firewall, relay on the fuse panel, temp sensor on the coolant flange.

i bought one from autozone... not the same kind, but it is 50A, and it works, but that still didnt fix my problem... i got a brand new battery, power to the glow plugs, the starter is turning over, its getting fuel, now it wont even start by popping... im beginning to think i might have some piston ring issues... if thats the case, im just gonna take off every part that is of value and get rid of the car...

try brake parts cleaner before scrapping it (get someone to spray it in as you crank)... then you know you have some blown glowplugs...

WD-40 if you are going to spray anything.

Do a voltage drop test to make sure that your wires are still in good shape going to/from the starter.
