Just follow the lowest hose going into it, on the very bottom.

If you have power steering the pump will need to come off in order to remove the thermostat... ack.

Assuming you're dong a replacement... over the years I've learned to:

- test the new t-stat in boiling water to confirm it opens *before* installing it... they do show up bad from the factory
- if the lower hose flange is black plastic check it carefully for warping... in fact, I used to just renew them (4 bucks) along with the t-stat until I found an aluminum one at a JY one day.   They warp like crazy and will stay sealed until you loosen them, at which point they will never seal again.  This you will discover only after you've put everything back together and run it up to temperature.
- check (and renew, if required) the PS and alternator belts while you're there... gotta take 'em off anyways

oh by the way if things get messy when you take the old one out the seal to use is the round O-ring (my thermostat came with three gaskets ...?) not the flat one :P learned that the hard way but when the old O-ring comes out it should be straight forward but mine fell into a bucket and i totally missed it.

The thermostat is upside down and will try to drop out dislodging the seal and  snagging the elbow to the p.a.s. brakets and being a pain in the arse. Superglue is your friend here, or simply roll the car onto its roof to make the job nice and easy.

Ah yes... forgot to mention... shop vac on the upper coolant flange hose (the one that goes to the top of the rad) will suck the t-stat into place and hold it there beautifully.
