http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1987261Interesting.

Not your usual Vortex project though. I spend most of my time in the Scirocco forums and there are some good people in there. Just have to dig.

EV drag racing is a serious buisiness. While it's gratifying to see some kids over at the Vhortex recycling a worn-out Scirocco, they have some learning ahead of them in terms of results.
My thoughts exactly. I dont know much about electronic vehicle conversions, but I thought their aspirations sounded a bit high to me. I also noticed the amount of rust around the rear axle area and once it sets in to the body back there the car is mostly done.
I also wondered about cost- getting an electric motor to make 250 hp cant be cheap!
I've never seen an EV go that fast- it must be an interesting experience since your ear will be expecting to hear a big loud engine.
Anyway, if these guys are serious and have the cash, more power to them, but I think they are getting in over their heads. Either way, should make for entertaining reading.

Love that EV drag cabbie doing the burnout!

Where and when do these EV drag folks go out and play? They look like fun events for any of us car nuts to check out.
I checked the calendar and there is a local Washington autocross event that day, which is the last local opportunity to race before nationals which is Sept 10-11 in Kansas. So I guess it depends what I'm going to do autocross-wise this season... which I am not yet sure what my plans are, as I haven't yet had time to sort out the hard starting problem on my GTD. I'll get back to you when I know... it would be fun to meet up (sounds like a west coast GTD GTG of sorts!

)
Cool stuff. I saw that postal van on a discovery channel special. Videos dont do it justice though, that would be fun to see them live.
After seeing that, there's no way that scirocco will go that fast.
