Okay, better measurement is 7/8" for the gas sprocket, so an extra 1/2" width for the diesel crank sprocket. Much more "easily describable" measurement to advance the bracket forward: just move it forward a half inch, that'll do it!

Guess I need to go buy a better caliper. One that can measure center to center between holes.
