I bought a 1.6td engine recently code SB. Just was looking around the engine today and noticed a stamp below and to the right of the plastic temperature sensor housing on the head. Its very small and as the vw logo with an arrow going around it and then some numbers and letters next to it going vertically up the head.
I cannot see this stamp on my 1.6 petrol mk2 golf. does it mean its been reconditioned?
Will have some pics up soon

not sure, all the rebuilds i've seen have a gold tag on the block right behind the cast iron part of the injection pump. Perhaps this is just indicative of a rebuilt head? Also, rebuilt blocks will often not be stamped with an engine code on the flat spot below #3 injector
If it has the vw recycle stamp, it rebuilt. Maybe only the short block though.
The stamp looks like a vw recycled stamp. Is there anyway to tell when it was done using the code next to the stamp?
BTW whats the short block?
sell it to me    i'll take it of your hands

I take it you don't get many SB engines in the States. I was quite lucky to find one in the UK, they are quite sought after apparently.
