Hello, and what a great site!
I just bought a 1997 AAZ 1.90 TD [ completely rebuilt by a mercedes auto shop ] that had only 200,000 kms to begin with, but has had new pistons, rings, bearings, seals, and has had the head redone, as the owner wanted it done. The injector pump is stock, and not touched. It has the KO3 turbocharger. The crank gear / crank face is in pristine shape!
I plan on putting this into my GEO Tracker..........
Some parts are missing from this engine, and I'm wondering if the parts I need can be obtained from a newer or older 1.9, or even a 1.6 engine.
Here's what's missing and needs to be replaced.........
Cam pulley
Crank pulley
Gear backing plate, spring clips, and plastic timing belt cover.
Bracket that keeps the external oil pump secured to the block
Flywheel
Power steering oil pump pipe / line
Valve cover and oil filler cap
Dip stick
The injector pump has the usual grime that a used pump would normally have.......I'd like to get it cleaned up along with the other parts....... What's the best cleaning method for the pump? I'm thinking either "auto store brake cleaner" or "Simple Geen" detergent and a toothbrush....? Ideas?
I just picked up a Haynes manual. Man, I have lots to learn.......and vw specific tools to buy
