ALH Engine died inexplicably!

Here's how it goes...

Parked the van up.

Hour or so later, get back in the van.

turn key.......nothing.

Hold the key to see if it's just being a one - off awkward pain, and the oil light and buzzer come on. Check the dip, oil level is fine. there is 1/4 of a tank of fuel. Haven't had ANY problems to speak of. Cambelt is fine. Feels like little or no compression, the engine is turning too quickly.

WTF?

Real pain is I have no tools at home (all at my lockup as I have been working on the cortina) and no scanner.

I'm stranded!!!
