well I have a 97 Saturn that has been running good. Yesterday my soon to be wife goes to start it and it does. Then dies instantly. She goes hmm looks down and its smoking out of the steering column. I go out to check it out and tear into it today. Fried a wire throughout the harness. Yet i cant get my fat A$$ in there to get to it. It may be going to pick n pull soon.
time for another vw as my rabbit is running great.
I just needed to tell someone. :?
later '90's vehicles seem to have been made with really cheap copper wires... a real problem with some of the mexican built vw's. might not be that, but i wouldn't doubt it.
I've also noticed that the Mexican V-dubs rust out alot faster, by the time you see the rust it is far too late. My 90 that was built in germany has lest rust on it that my brothers 96. and both of them have been lifetime undercoated.
I believe the manufacturers have purposely scaled back on the zinc content of the metal so that you HAVE to buy something new at some point. Less zinc generally correlates to more rust.
Well fixed my saturn today. Burned a ground wire completely. small wire comming off of a huge wire at the ignition switch roasted the wire then the 30 amp huge fuse. pain the butt to fix.
