I would like to put my car up on jackstands so I can work under it. Where is the best place to put them on a MK2 Golf, preferable with out them punching through the floor pan? Just to be greedy, how bout some pictures of em in place?
There are floor reinforcements just behind the subframe in the front about 10 inches in from the rockers. At the back i would put them at the most outer point of the axle. If the jack crushes the reinforcements then use the subframe.
when I first got my car I ruined the fender trying to jack there, very underrated question! Good question for those new dubbers
I find mechanics using there hoist tend to dent the fenders thinking there jacking an amarican car... the fender along the bottom is litterally one piece of sheet metal thick in places
I always put the jack stands where the lower control arm or rear axle is bolted to the body.
lift the car with the little donut looking dealy on the front sides of the car, an put the front stands on the pinch welds that are behind the front control arm bushings, its very stable that way an does no damage to the underside of the car.
the rear is pretty simple, unless you are doing suspension work, jack an brace on the rear beam
