Do 1.5 and 1.6 NA manifolds and bolts interchange?
« on: June 02, 2008, 10:40:15 am »
I am picking up a 1980 Caddy tomorrow. Apparrently the exhaust manifold came adrift while the PO was driving it down the road. Probably has broken, missing or stripped bolts and maybe cracked manifold(s).  I have a 1.6 NA motor at home. Will the manifold studs/bolts and or manifolds themselves from the 1.6 work on the 1.5?

On a rare chance the downpipes may be different, one might be the stud/nut style while the other is the C clamp style. Unlikely though.

The downpipes are different and the exhaust pipe is broken. I plan to drive it home with no exhaust pipe but at least want to get the manifolds on there.
Thank you.

From my experience, all 80 1.5L engines came with the "Header" type 4 into 2 manifold. The later 1.6 came with the dreaded "Toilet bowl" with the spring clips. I have had both and the earlier style, while more prone to cracking at the block brace seems to flow better.  Personal preference also is towards bolts for me. Those spring clips can come off at frightening speeds sometimes. The studs on the head should be the same with both manifolds. I don't know about vehicles abroad, but I am pretty sure all of the 1980 1.5L Na engines were built in Germany.
