turning up boost on 1.9
« on: June 02, 2008, 08:37:39 am »
Hi guys and girls,

I just got back my pump from Gilles and it appears I need to up my boost as I am getting a lot of smoke under medium + throttle.  I believe I have a Garrett turbo and I think I just turn the nut on the rod near the fire wall but this is all new to me and my mech.  I looked under the stickies but the link seems to be dead.  Can someone please post a step by step?
Very much appreciated.  I can't wait to get it right.
Thanks in advance.

Greg

http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=579  this should cover what you need to know except that your Gilles pump is way better than anyone coud achieve by simply turning up fuel :)

Thanks so much!

That's what I needed.

Went for a good country back-roads drive tonight after the rain.  I'm happy.  I'll coment of fuel in a couple days.  I 'll play w/the psi this week as long as I have daylight but I don't have a gauge yet.  I'll go with single full tuns on the adjuster nut and then test  drive.  Any thoughts on the later?
out.

boost guage would be nice but EGT is a must, unless you don't mind possible "melt" down ...

I didn't notice a write up on a good place to install the egt gauge.  Any suggestions.   As well where is a good place to buy one between ott and mtl?
Anything else I'll need?
Thanks for the help.
