Vanagon Diesel kit:
« on: May 20, 2008, 08:49:42 pm »
This showed up on our diesel webring a day ago.  I actually have a good friend in DFW area who would hold it for me, but I have to admit, I would just be hoarding it in case I got around to doing a swap in my Vanagon.  So, let someone else have a go at a great deal:

"Before I post to Thesamba, is anyone here interested in this stuff?

Diesel conversion kit for Vanagon (bellhousing, flywheel, engine mounts,
support bars, oil pan, oil pump pickup, oil fill tube). Everything you
need to mount a diesel engine into any Vanagon at 50 degrees.
Selling for what I paid for it, $500. It's in the Dallas, Tx. area and
I really don't want to ship.

I also have other diesel parts from an '85 Quantum such as the intake
and exhaust manifolds, EGR, A/C and alternator bracket, oil filter mount
bracket, starter, flywheel, clutch, etc.

Thanks - David "

just bought a 78 vanagon camper.  want to make the switch from 1.6 gas air-cooled to diesel,  but dont know where to start.  I am definitely interested in the kit for sale, tho I live in manitoba.
Also very interested in advice:  don't know what diesel engine will be appropriate for this vehicle.

Did you get in touch with David Schwarz on the e-mail link I provided?

BTW:  How do you end up with a 1.6 in a '78????  Should be a 1.8

Going to any water cooled installation in this vehicle (T2) will require finding a place for radiator and ducting.  that's why it is normally done with a Vanagon T3).
