I am going to look at a 1997 jetta deisel tomorow, i want to know how to tell if it is a tdi, it does not say tdi on the trunk, it only says gl. any help?

Yes, it will have the same engine as your 93 1.9TD golf and get similar fuel economy. 49 is excellent for a 1.9TD, by the way.
in all actuallity it is not that good, i carpool with a guy who runs a 86 4.6 turbo deisel ait gets 58 constantly, also family members of mine have 2000 jetta tdi and a 2002 jetta tdi they get 1050 kms per tank steady, if you drive a constant speed and keep these motors tuned properly they are capable of lots
My driving style does not lend itself to good fuel economy, thats why I drive a diesel. I can flog it mercilessly and it still gets low 40's. If I drove a V8 pickup it would be getting 5mpg...
If driven sensibly (rarely happens
), mine will still deliver near 50mpg (cdn gallons) cruising at 120km/h on the highway.
