I bought this cluster with Two connectors thinking its a CE1 but now i just paid attention to the connectors and they look different from the CE1s IIRC although there are two!

That's a broken CE1 cluster... "broken" meaning someone has removed the second black plastic connector and left the wires dangling.

If you have an existing CE1 cluster you should be able to move a connector from your existing cluster... they unclip iirc, which is probably how one came to be missing on the cluster you just bought.

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that the red wire might be an early early version of the Vss signal needed to drive the cruise control... it's definately an early version of the CE1 cluster since it has the upshift light.

Thanx Vince for the reply...

I have another CE1 cluster from a 85 NA Golf  which doesnt have anything on the rite side as in neiher the clock nor the rev counter! just empty space...
The connectors on that seem to be different!!  that has flat metals pins as contacts as opposed to this one with just the blue chip thingy as contacts.

Would that matter?  or will i still be able to use this?

I hope u can get what i am trying to say here!
