No Oil Pressure!
« on: May 11, 2008, 09:38:22 am »
Hello all,

I have a 1985 1.6 N/A, and I got it running. However, the oil light kept flashing so I wired up a VDO oil gauge to a VDO sender in the head and started it up. No oil pressure.

So I thought it might be my wiring, so I will see if there is any oil squirting out of the head. I took the sender out and it is bone dry.

Next, I took off the vacuum pump and used a drill to turn the oil pump. I had the senders at the flange and the head unhooked, so if there was any oil pressure, I would see it squirt out of either of these two orfices. Nothing squirted out, and I had my cordless drill turning the oil pump at full speed!

So, is my oil pump toast? What do you think I should do?

And to think, I had this engine running for a good 5 minutes without any oil pressure!!!       Hope I didn't damage anything.

You turning it the correct direction?

What about the condition of the car

You say you "got it running".

Has it been sitting? How long?

You changed the oil and filter?

How did the oil you drained look?

I fixed it. It turned out to be when I put in the windage tray, I didn't tighten the bolts for the oil pump all the way down. So when I dropped the pan, one of the oil pump bolts was laying at the bottom...

The oil looked pretty good for running it with no oil pressure. Gotta go to the store and pick up some cheap oil to break this engine in!

Thanks
