Upgrade 101 to a Z-1 Passat
« on: April 14, 2005, 01:55:19 pm »
I'm looking into the Kerma Sprint 502 injectors.

Anyone know what stock hp and torque figures are for my passat and what hp and torque figures I'd see for  the Kerma Sprint 502 injectors.

I am mechanically inclined, can do the change out of nozzles myself.

Next question is if I chip my engine with a stage l improvement from Rocket ship.

HP and torque figures with the Sprint 502's and a stage 1 from Rocketship?

Thanks from a newbie.

Stock, you have 90 rompin' stompin' horses.

With those injectors and the stock ECU, it will probably be 110 - 120 hp, but you will have trouble with lots of smoke unless you raise the boost pressure to about 17 psi (which takes a combination of a "bleed" at the sensing hose and a Dawes mechanical controller so you don't blow the turbo apart). Expect "shuddering" under some speed and load conditions (because the ECU isn't matched to the injectors).

You should be able to avoid all that hassle if you go to the Rocketchip straight away. Make sure you tell Jeff (Rocketchip) what injectors you are going to be using so that you get the right chip program.

If the sprint 502's are of 205 micrometer, you should get 100 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque.

It's what I got from Marc's Bosch 205's.

Who and where is a good source of Bosch .205 injector nozzles?  Price?

If I keep the stock injectors, what kind of figures can I get just chipping for horse power and ft pounds torque with Jeff /Rocketship chip tuning?

I ran my 1998 AHU with 0.205mm injectors for almost a year.  Power was decent and there was no smoke at all.  Definate improvment in the feel of this motor in my heavy Syncro Transporter.  Recently I installed 0.216mm injectors.  Under heavy acceleration there is some smoke, but no worse that say a mid 80s TD Jetta under heavy accelertion.  To me, driving a big truck, I don't care about a bit of smoke.  8)  The acceleration due to the increased toque is fantastic!  Stock ECU, 4.5mg IQ.  I have never experienced shuddering or other driveability problems.  In short, I wish I did the 0.216s in the first place!
