Hey, how many different kinds/colors of springs are there that fit the 1.6 and 1.9 TD pumps? I have heard of a few and I am wondering if they have different spring rates?
I have a blue on in my aaz now. Not sure of the spring rate though.
Cheers.
Boost pin or advance springs? AFAIK, only the color of advance springs means anything. AAZ boost pin springs are way weaker than other springs as the boost pin has no taper, so they really don't need to do much. If the boost on all other engines was the same, I would expect the springs to all be the same rate.
I am talking about the boost springs. I think I seen a post from you jimfoo, that shows a pic of a cummins spring and it was silver. I am wondering if different springs from different car/truck manufactures have different rates?
Cheers, Ryan.
spring rate isn't as crucial since you can adjust with the starwheel.

Unless you have an AAZ pump, which doesn't have one.
I have no idea if other pumps, like the Cummins have a different rate as I only have that one and the AAZ spring. So I've never measured a 1.6 spring. I would imagine the higher stock boost an engine ran, the higher the likelihood it had a stiffer spring, but that's just a guess. I would imagine someone like Giles, who deals with tons of pumps might know, if he wanted to tell you.
I do have the aaz pump. I am thinking about makeing up some shims to try different levels of preload on the spring to see what happens with fueling and what not.
You want a 1.6 spring. Even with shims, you wouldn't be able to get enough spring pressure with an AAZ spring. That's how weak it is.
I am running a 1.6 spring and pin in it now. I am just thinking about different rates for different types of tune, to get a good balance of economy and power. And how a different spring rate might affect things.
