G60 valve cover on AAZ
« on: April 16, 2008, 02:56:25 am »
well i have a G60 cover and nice new rubber gasket which i was going to use on a 1.6 head but its not worth fixing (for me).....

Anyways has anyone ever drilled and tapped the aaz head for the 8 studs so the g60 cover can be used? The guys in my shop and I feel there's tons of meat avaibile for the studs but i want to see what you guys think before i go a drilling..I feel the time wil be worth it.

cheers

I've heard that it could be done, but I never had the cojones to try. I just powdercoated my old AAZ cover till I can get something else.

i don't think it will fit with out modification,  i think an aba vc would work though, you'd just have to drill and tap holes for the bolts... which would be childs play considering the size of the bolts and it being aluminum.   i've never tried, but the aba valve cover has straight edges like an aaz.

well i had to look because i have them loose! the seal looks like it would work? but the only problem i see is the oilcap recess interfeers with one of the studs! so i would say close but no sigar! but is possible? maybe different bolts?

When i test fitted the cover to the head i had no interferance problems around the oil filler...but my head doesn't have any of the 3 studs installed on the cam bearings caps..are the stock covers held on with 3 studs/nuts or 3 bolts?

why would you? because they look cool:)

Hi all I have been watching your site for some time now and picking up lots of good information, I liked the idea of a G60 cover on my AAZ head for my 1.6 TD project engine so I tried it there is enough meat to support the studs in the cover. hope to have the car back up and running in a couple of weeks. Attached is a link to a picture of my engine in my cabriolet. Have not figured out how to attach a picture to the post as yet.

I've just bought a polished mk3 GTi rocker cover, will this fit? and how? do you use the mk3 gasket and bolts? I know the breather and the oil filler cap are in opposite places, but i'm sure it will fit!
