Electric PAS?
« on: April 13, 2008, 05:35:29 pm »
so the motor i bought from Europe does not have a PS pump...  because the car had Electric PAS.  after doing some research it actually isn't that hard to retrofit it to an existing system that uses the regular PS pump on a pulley.  basically it is a hydraulic power pack that builds to a certain pressure and holds it, then shuts off once the pressure is built, creating less drag and wear than a regular PS pump.  open the valves by turning the wheel and the pump comes on to keep the pressure up.  pretty neat!

Here is a pic of a conversion someone did.  looks like they had some hydraulic hoses made up at a shop.  that way you get custom lengths, and can specify for the right type fittings (and you get hoses that can withstand about 3000 psi)

i wonder if i could just install one of those hydraulic power packs?  might be cheaper?  should easily be able to handle the minimal power steering requirements.

Does anyone know what the PS pumps regulate their pressure to??? is it around 100 psi??  Thanks!
