Compressor on T3 too small? and maybe a fix..
« on: April 07, 2008, 11:28:31 am »
Hi,
my Audi 80 is running good with the new 1,9TD, but ist has still the old T2-Turbo from the old RA-Engine..
works good at 15 PSI, but i dare not going higher. (EGT, backpressure)

I have a nearly new T3 from the 1,6TD (JR), according to data i found on the net
it is a "TA03", the A stands for the compressorwheel size.

Last weekend i was visiting a friend who has a Golf MK2, with a identical setup, except a T3 instead of the T2.
The lag was a little bigger, but high RPM-power was much better, only problem was the boost (22PSI)
droping at high RPMs, i suggest the compressor getting to its limits an the turboshaft making too much RPMs.

There are many Turbos that are of TB03-type, where the compressor fills the Inlet completely and not as on the 1,6TD where it is smaller than possible.

i know some BMW E28 524td with this type running more than 22PSI on a 2,4l engine, so why not make a "hybrid"?

has anyone done something similar?
