Hi everyone
just finished two great pumps for a 1.6L and a 1.9L
here are a few spec's
1.6L TD for Eric in Texas
No boost fuel set to 26cc
Full boost fuel 70cc
Total advance at 5500 RPM 23 deg pump timing
yes that mean 46 deg crank.
what do guys think of that
Now Andys pump from Bowmanville/Ontario
1.9L TD pump he's setting up with twin turbo
No boost fuel set to 46 cc
Full boost fuel 86 cc
Total advance at 5250 RPM 26 deg/ 52 crank
I know everyone has been interested in my mods for some
time. I won't tell u how i do it but both of these pumps are
very reliable and have over 6000 rpm capability.
Dr D's old 1.6 motor easily went over 6000 (yes i drove it)
i know that the 1.9L is not a great revver but we're trying with andy's
new engine and Dr D's new 1.9L he's building now.
Both these pumps also have the capabilty of being turned way up
too.
Hope this answers some of the critics out there.
it is worth paying for the rebuild
if these guys just run the pumps the way i gave it back they will
be very happy, gotta run 20psi boost should be with intercooler too.

if i put a big superior sticker on my car do i get a discount?
What can be expected as a result of the mods? I only know "Giles is the man" but now how to contact you, how much the mods are.....
How rev-limited IS the 1.9td? Is the reputation deserved? Or is a 1.9td weakness on revs like the Suzuki Samurai and tipping - yes, it can happen, but not like the reputation might lead you to believe ( this from a guy who can drift the tail of a Samurai with 5 inches of lift and 35" tall tires  ).
Concerning the 1.9L question, I've found 3 things (4 if you include stock pumps) that really put a damper on 1.9L performance.
First of all, the connecting rods have HUGE balance pads on the caps. These make them very heavy and cumbersome.
Secondly, the crank stroke is quite long for a 4 cyl.
Finally, the cylinder head ports, particularly the exhaust are horrible. I'm going to take pics of port cross sections soon.
With all that weight being flung around such a big crank, and trying to move air out those restrictive ports, it's no wonder these engines don't rev.
Shouldn't this be in the "for sale" forum?
Looks like a general info post to me. I'd imagine when he gets around to posting prices etc, it'll be in the for sale forum.

Sounds like a couple of beasts.
I've got a question for you- What sorts of RPM ranges can be expected out of a mechanical TDI pump? As it seems that most of the 1.6TD's in the USA are gone, I'll probably have to use a TDI for my project. (especially when I get the funds together to actually be able to start it!) I'd like to have RPM ranges similar to what the 1.6 guys are getting. Is it even possible? Thanks.
Regardless, you WILL get my business when the time comes.

thats sounds awesome, but im not too sure what im compareing it to. can someone post the stock specs of the 1.6 and 1.9 pumps please?
thanks alot

That's what I was asking - and even the stock specs will only help so much. How much power/torque at what rpm are we talking here? I have modded my pump - filed a ramp (eye-balled a photo of a 1.6td pin, and went just a little less aggressive) in the rampless 1.9 lda pin, turned up the main power screw about 1.5 turns, and with a bleed valve set the turbo to about 12 psi. I am waiting for my intercooler install before I go for more boost/fuel. With these settings, I am getting what I would consider moderate smoke ( my non-diesel friend says it's a LOT of obnoxious smoke  ) but running about 1050 degrees on a long steep hill. How does this compare to the mods you have made? Am I closer to the limit of the stock pump than I thought? You mention the 1.9td has bad porting - I had heard it's better than the 1.6td - not true? What about rev limiter mods? Is it possible to tune the limiter on the 1.9td pump? - and I am not interested in running over 5000 rpm so much as not limiting fuel up to that rpm.
I would like to hear your thoughts - I have my 1.9td and my close friend might want it too, if it works out.
