020 Fifth Gear change
« on: May 10, 2010, 12:26:13 pm »
I have a .75 fifth I'm trying to change in a 96 tranny. On the weekend I tried to loosen the nut (12pt on the larger gear) with the tranny out of the car with no luck.  I figured I'd put it back in the car with cv's in place and use the brakes to hold it.  Is there a better way of doing it?

I'd rather not have to fiddle with the shift mechanizm if I don't have to.

How tight is it?  Has anyone ever damaged the rest of the tranny trying to remove it because it was 'stuck'.
