I want to buy a part from someone, what should I do to not get screwed if I send a bunch of money through paypal?  Any suggestions? Thanks!

myself , i like to use paypal , BUT , through my credit card ... that way i can go through paypal , and my mastercard   for recourse  if the guy decides to try to screw me over .

the other option is to only buy stuff from people close enough that , if need be , you can drive to their house with a baseball bat , if they  aren't being honest ...:D :D :D .

I agree...if you use paypal, use your credit card and/or if you have paypal buyer credit...go through it. You have some recourse if you get "screwed" in the end.

Do some digging...I had a recent bout with this lately with a vwdiesel.net member named MK2FANATIC.  I sent 250.00 to him through PayPal Buyer Credit (and he is in CAN) and he never shipped out the parts. Filed a claim through paypal...he never responded and PayPal REFUNDED my money. I was glad it went this well as I have heard of people getting burned through paypal...especially if it is just a cash transaction. Either way...insurance or credit card = piece of mind. It took a lot of work on my end to get my money back and it did take time (2 months) but it did eventually come through. In full...

We were starting a buyer/seller feedback forum here as well. I haven't had time to check up, see where we were at, etc. with it. However, it'd be a good idea.
