So I got my 1.9 in my Toyota truck. It was running when I pulled it but now I can't get it to go. I have power at the fuel solinoid and the advance solinoid. It will almost go. Sometimes it will jug on its own for a few seconds then quit.
I have cracked the injectors and cranked it over a dozen times and it seams like I have all the air out. Is there a different way to bleed the injectors? Am I missing something? It is almost going but just won't keep going.
Any suggestions?
The entire system is actually self-priming so no real need for any manual intervention.
Having said that, you can save wear and tear on everything by applying vacuum to the out bolt until you get a fresh flow of fuel without bubbles... this fills the fuel filter and pump with clean filtered fuel and gets everything ready to go. The remaining injector lines should fill with no more than 1 minute of cranking in a couple of 30 second bursts (allowing the starter to cool in between).
Much more cranking than this and something else is going on. Solenoid stuck ? IP wired to a source of power that cuts out when the starter is actually engaged ? Vanes in the IP sat a long time and seized ? You should have translucent sections of tubing going to and from the pump... with someone cranking can you see fuel flowing both in and out ?? Air bubbles ? Darn sure you have the timing set right ? Glow plugs functioning fine ?
do you have a lift pump feeding into the injection pump ?
if not , you may need one now .
you if you have new fuel filters . you will be getting air from them too , untill they fill up and purge their air .
presurizing your fuel tank with a few pounds can help this out .
Well I finally got it. Not sure what I did though. I got it to idle, rough, but idle, lots of smoke. I have not throttle response. Moving the shaft did nothing. Then I noticed a return line on one of the injectos was leaking. So I replaced it, then one of them blew open when it was idleing again. So I changed all of them.
Started it up and it would idle normally but no throttle. I let it sit like this idling for a bit then I could give it a little fuel and it would rev a bit. I shut it off, started it back up and VOILA. Normal.
I am chalking it up to air maybe from leaking return lines on injectors? I have a lift pump in the tank but that did not help me.
Well its running. Check it out at
