Friends car blew up. Needs a solid vw asap. $4500.00 max.

Hey guy's,
I have a buddy who is in a tight spot.  Married with kids, he and his wife both work, but one of there two cars just siezed an engine.  He needs to get another one quickly( I am tired of giving him rides home :wink: ).
He is looking for a VW golf, jetta or passat.  Would prefer the jetta or passat.  Here is the evil part, he does not care if it is a gasser :shock: .

This guy is not at all mechaniclly inclined.  I can help him out, but he does not, (nor do I) need a project.  I have been trying to convince him to get a car from anywhere except new england.  I can do mechanical, but I cant stop the cancer once it starts.

He has max $4500.00 to spend. Cash deal.  He commutes so a 5-spd is needed.
If any of you know where there is a solid car that has been taken care of, let me know.  It's got to be solid.  Unless you know for sure that it's in good shape and taken care of please hold off.
I live in maine, right on the NH border.  He can do anywhere the airlines here flys to.  FL. OH, NC  are the ones he can hit with a direct flight.
Stuff in California is probably out of the question.  He needs to go get it and pull like a max 24 hour commute home.  He could hit Canada if need be, His son just was signed by the Kitchner Rangers.
If he does get a gasser, that means I can sell him one of my 1.6TD's engines in a year or so :wink:

I have a 93 TD passat ready to sell. new engine, pump, turbo and loads of other new/recent stuff. I wanted about $5000cdn for it, but i suppose if someone were to walk up to me, snatch the keys out of my hands and pass me $4500 I'd probably not call the cops. :lol:
