I'm a little weary of the guy organizing the GTG, sooner...
Back during the time leading up to and during TDIFest 2003 in Burlington, he posted somethings that rubbed the wrong way with numerous local forum members, especially one of the TDIFest 2003 forum moderators and a key organizer of that very successful 'Fest -- someone I highly respect and one who is not quick to be offended.
For some additional background and history, he also organized another GTG some time ago (almost a full year in advance :? ) and completely disappeared off the face of the forums until he resurfaced in the last few months... Don't you notice the ominous absence of a lot of local veterans, who would normally otherwise be clamouring to GTG, posting their attendence?
He just comes across as a bit of a funny character. Maybe it's just his online personality, or a misunderstood sense of humour, but I'm not alone to make the observation that he's not altogether "there"... I've never met the guy; he's probably a great guy in person, and I'm never one to judge, but here's one instance of the boy who cries wolf; he's going to have to work to gain credibility among the group, IMHO...
The timing of the GTG coincides well with the time I need to have my timing belt replaced, but it's a big job (other stuff needs to be done) that precludes doing it in a social occasion. Have fun, plans are underway for another big TDI/Diesel GTG in the London area in the spring time (perhaps at Gerry's place).

You know; I tend to agree actually. :| He comes across as a bit 'curt' in his replies and asks some odd questions; I just figured he was a newbie.
Well, I would like to do a BioDiesel Brewing Bee anyway some time in the Spring and was really hoping maybe we could get the Putnam Shop again or some other great venue (as my shop is wayyy too small for any GTG

). I'm lucky if I can fit my Rabbit in there with all my boyfriend's woodworking tools and saws

.
Anyway, let's see what transpires, but a Spring GTG at Gerry's sounds good to me too!

(I missed it last year, so I'd like to make it this time!)
See ya!

Petra, if you do go to the GTG, take pics, I'd like to see what sooner looks like
I have a date set for my TB replacement. My car is touching on 290k. This will be a big fix-it job: new TB, tensioner, tensioner roller, accessory belt damper, waterpump, injection pump (12mm from Marc!

) plus a full tune-up consisting of replacing all fluids and filters. Quite possibly, I'll also have a funky new custom camshaft to play with as well!
Oh, Marc, if you're reading this, I still haven't received the cam blank. Hope it didn't get lost in the delivery...

Hey guys;
I've been away from here for a while cuz I had a bad accident on my farm a month ago; I was putting my horse outside when he spooked or spazzed or something and as he was taking off, I fell down and he clipped my face with his hoof! I had to get 8 stitches and was feeling rather crappy and 'confidence-less' for several weeks!
Well, I'm back in the saddle and although I'm a bit more cautious handling these big dumb beasts

, I'm concentrating on enjoying life again: and that includes playing with my Rabbit and brewing BioDiesel again!

So... does anyone want to have our own Diesel GTG sometime soon where maybe we can make some BioDiesel and generally have a good time?
Let me know

.

Yikes
Glad you're feeling better!
I thought I might have a good place for gtg's this year, we were looking @ a horse farm in ST Thomas, but ended up backing out due to land use issues :?
So...I'm still close to Sparta Dragstrip, may have a small gtg this fall after renovations are complete, but can't just yet.
For now, 'if you build it I will come' Count me in

Holy crap, that's no fun at all!! I got thrown from a horse when I was younger, scared the poop out of me and havent been on one since.

Hope you're ok...
Why dont you all from the GWN come down to beautiful Ohio for a GTG?

Yeah, long shot, I know... I get lonely down here, all the action is up north! There is like one beat up rabbit diesel around here, and like one immaculate Caddy that some old guy drives around as a work truck!?!? and that's it. There are some A4 golf/jetta/NB's too, most are TDI's actually, but probably dont give a damn about the VW community.
Sigh.
Ah well, maybe when my Rocco project is finished, I'll come up.

Until then.....

i'm moving from my current shop into a new place in late may/early june. Maybe once most of the stuff is out of the old place, i'll host another GTG there, when there's more room to move around.

Thanks guys
I think my injury screwed me more up mentally than physically! but no, I didn't kill or maim my horse Patrick, although my boyfriend sure felt like it!

It was an accident; cuz my horse was being a bit of a spazz that morning or just spooked at something and took off bucking and my head got in the way!

I've been riding him again; he's at my Trainer's now and we're getting ready for Show Season.
As for the GTG, I really want to make some BioDiesel or at least have a small workshop where we can all have a go at making some 1l test batches

.
Hamilton or Putnam sound like great venues; TDI Meister and Dr. Diesel, let me know if you guys set something up. I can bring any necessary BioDiesel making stuff

.
Bye for now!

Do these Get Togethers happen often? Just through the summer, or often in winter too? I'm new to the forum - just got my '94 Jetta TD, and I'm loving it. My last one was a '95 Jetta TD engine in an '89 Jetta body about 2 years ago. I only had it two months before a Ford Bronco took it forcefully off of the road - both literally and figuratively. Haven't gotten on this forum or TDIClub 'till now because I didn't have a diesel anymore. :-(
Anyway, hello to everyone, and I look forward to attending some of this stuff. :-)

Typically once a month or so. Less so in winter, but the die-hards still find an occasion to GTG in the coldest and most miserable of winter days.
It all depends on who steps up to host. We have had some great ones in recent years that have come to be almost annual traditions.
The June GTG planned for Dorchester in the other thread should be considered one of these

July is being planned for Putnam.
August is being planned for Bancroft in Eastern Ontario near Peterborough and Ottawa.
September (Labour Day weekend) is the annual TDIFest. Different venue every year (2000 -- North Carolina; 2001 -- Utah; 2002 -- Michigan; 2003 -- Burlington, Ontario; 2004 -- Greater Boston Area, Massachusetts; 2005 -- Wisconsin).
GTG calendars can be very full. I'm booked every Tuesday evening for a VW GTG in Burlington, and I'm also going to a big annual VW show in New Jersey in the middle of July.
