ALH tranny mods?
« on: March 10, 2008, 06:35:57 am »
I finished putting in my G60 clutch and flywheel. Since I have the trany off are there any mods worth doing to it? I heard that there guys adding shims at the half shafts to get something like a limited slip action. Does this work and is it worth looking into?

The shim kit works with the 020 trannys but does not work with the 02J's.  The 02J is a great stout tranny and really does not need much.  Unless you want to crack it open and install a Peloquin differential.  :)  Also, the Sigma shifter by Dieselgeek is the best shifter you can get for the 02J: http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=277

It all depends on the mod levels you are looking at for your tdi...

I would suggest the LSD is a really nice way to put things down.

If I was going all out I would suggest a new .681 fifth gear and a 3.1 ring and pinion set. If you have to limit it to things that need to be done when the tranny is out do the lsd first. Next I would say the ring and pinion. The fifth gear and the short shifter can be done on the car.

Hope that helps. TDiparts.com has all the items btw.

Almost forgot... change the oil ;)

I'd second the 5th gears and the gear oil. I am running the .658 and a Peloquin in my car and love them. I just got 20 5th gear sets in from Germany:

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help!
