Garry,
get a 1.9 AAZ motor and you can get better horses!
where you built that 1.6 too the AAZ will have that at stock and plenty of room for improvment!
i went to a AAZ and it's a nite and day difference!
i can't wait too hop my horse power up
right now my low end torque is way better then i had when i had the 1.6TD motor in!

I did not think there was a metal HG available for the 1.6TD Mechanical head motor.  If there was, I'd be on it.  Is there?  Will the stock style (victor reintz german) gasket be good for 15PSI?  18?

Zuk - Contact Dave at Inline Performance to see about fabricating up another intake manifold.  I think he would be happy to do it, but I don't know what price range.  It took more hours than either of us thought imaginable to make mine.

An AAZ is my dream motor, but they aren't very plentiful down here, unfortunately.  I bought 3 1.6's for $900 in 2004 so I'm practically drowning in parts for them.

I have thought about going from the T3 to a K15, but am more enticed by chasing after a huger high end in the long run.

Thanks everyone for your feedback so far!

You can get away with 20+ PSI with the stock head gasket and studs for a long time.  About three years to be exact. (more on that later)

For the metal headgasket, you use the AAZ metal head gasket, and cut a piece of rubber (valve cover oil cap gasket) to half fill in the extra oil drain hole in the head gasket.

Its pritty much plug and play.

I'm running 20psi to my really tired engine. Fresh stock head gasket and strech bolts. It likes it. No intercooler either, yet.

well when do you plan on coming to wisconsin again?
i can get you a AAZ!
but for now your only options for you 1.6 is to run a k14 witch would be the easy route or dive into a VNT style turbo witch is the ultimate way to go because that gives you 2 turbo's in 1 but is more complex in a way to put together! your pump has a lot to do with your horse power! do ya have a Giles pump?

Zukgod1, when you get a price quote, let me know what it is so I can chew it over.  I will eventually put a FMIC on my Jetta since I'm not too keen on the stock intake due to its bias to cylinders 2 & 3.

Guess I did answer my own question.  I will do it :)  I don't know if I'll ever approach metal HG territory.  I'll turn it up to 18 and enjoy.  I want to start building another engine from the ground up for performance.  I don't know if I will have the $$ this year or next year though.  Maybe it'll be an AAZ if I can find one.

how long have you been running that head gasket like that??.....I would REALLY LOVE to run a multi layer metal gasket but I am kinda scared of the modded gasket on the 1.6 block and head...I thought I read that the guy running that rubber piece (you?) was having coolant leaks when the engine cooled off??
thanks for any input you got.... 8)
