Feeling a little daft for asking but where does this belong?

I removed it and painted it along with the rest of the tin and now with the engine reassembled I cant figure out where it belongs.
Probably behind the IP !

I am laughing because I found the EXACT bracket sitting in my tool tray just tonight.
So when ya figure it out let me know will ya?

That's the small bracket that goes on top of the alternator bracket on an A2.
 It connects it to the injection pump bracket.... I keep breaking bolts on that bracket and get a bad vibration noise after they break.
Tornado red, '91 Golf 4 door, with M-TDI 12mm pump, south bend clutch, VNT-15 turbo, 02A trany
MK4s: 2000 TDI jetta, 2003 TDI wagon, 2000 golf 2.0 gasser.
'84 Rabbit with 1.7TD KY block pistons bored to 80mm, VNT-15
'84 GTI with stock 1.6TD starion intercooler.

Yep that is bolted to the IP support arm ,up close to the cylinder head
Cummins 4bta- 85 dodge prospector short bed
28 mpg!!and i can pull down a house!
1.6td in toyota pickup
10mm head ,t3 intercooled.

oh man, Ive had that damn thing sitting on my tool tray for 3 months and I cannot figure out what it's for

I put all the bolts and parts into plastic bags not to loose anything but I couldnt figure out for the life of me.....wtf that little thingy was for

thanks for clearing that up!
Now how many bolts go to it? 2 IM GUESSING?

Yep 2 bolts, one has to be short enough it doesn't contact the injection pump gear after it goes through the bracket.
 Other bolt goes right into the top of the alternator bracket.
 I'm thinking I'll always tighten down this bracket before snugging down the alternator bracket from now on.
 That might keep the stress from breaking the bolts.
