Someone out there must know. In my 93 MK3 jetta I have a leaking heater core so I get out my trusty phillips and start dissasembly. I have gotten the upper and lower dash off & am now at the stage where I'm trying to get the sheetmetal bulkhead thingy that the steering column bolts to with the special breakaway bolts. I got those out no trouble and the torx bolts by the front door hinges too as well as the angle bracket that goes up from one side of the steering column to the firewall . My question is this , is there anything else that that bulkhead attaches to cause it sure doesn't want to come out. Feels pretty solid still , I can't see if there is another fastening point or not partially because it's dark and I'm half blind anyway. So what is the experience of the hive mind. I await enlightenment. Cheers Dan
I think it also bolts to the tunnel just in front of the shifter. There may also be a bracket going to the firewall just to the side of the cluster.
Hth, Mikki x
Now that I can see it in the light I realize that the bulkhead is attached in 5 places , both sides at the door hinges, to the shifter tunnel, to the upper firewall and straight back near the pedal brackets ( with invisible bolts) Thanks Mikki for the hint. cheers Dan
