VNT15 vs t3?
« on: December 30, 2008, 08:02:21 pm »
Hi,
Right now I'm running a vnt15 at about 15 psi on 1.6na rabbit.  Lots of fun.

I have 3 or 4 t3's laying around, too.  I'm kinda tempted to make a log manifold and put a t3 on.

Any opinions on this?  Advantages/disadvantages of each?

Thanks.

Why would you like to take a 30-year step back?

If you want more power just move onto a bigger VNT - you have already gone through the trouble of adapting a modern turbo on your VW so why not stick with VNTs?

The t3 will give more air at the top end but there is an enormous amount of lag when compared to the vnt15.The t3 will need more fueling all around to make it work well. You could try the t3 if you havn't seen them in action before but I think that you would end up enjoying the 15 psi form the vnt over 22 psi from the t3.The T3 would basically only start to make 1 psi after the vnt maxed out at 15psi for example.A bigger vnt would be Ideal as TurboJ suggests however they can be hard to come by depending on where you live.

or.... If you're making your own manifodls why not have both?

Just putting it out there
T3's can make some wicked boost. I read a claim the other day of 40 psi on long pulls.

that power is really not useable though because its so far down the line,I myself am looking for a k14 or a vnt. What makes these motors shine is the pull off the line.I know i have to be way out in third on my truck before im making that boost.

Heres what you do. You give me the 15 and your set up for it and I will give you my kkk24.
Seriously, I haven't even owned a TD yet, just building one, but from what I have heard and experienced in the GMC diesel with the variable vane turbo I would love to have one. I have seen some VNT17 on fleabay before, but looks like more coin than I care to shell out.
